The outside
The outside is just real old-fashioned handwork. Just use soapy water with all-purpose cleaner. There are also special deep fryer cleaners. These often work well but can quickly become quite expensive. An option is to use such things when the above does not work.
After any form of cleaning, wipe the fryer well with water only. Then place some new oil in the deep fryer and you can start frying again!
