Taking a bath burns as many calories as working out for half an hour?!

Researchers at Loughborough University decided to do extensive research into the difference between bathing and exercising. They set out to find a group of volunteers. One part was allowed to lie in a 40 degree bath for an hour and the other part had to stand on an exercise bike for an hour. Then they were both allowed to eat the same light meal. While the study was going on, the researchers monitored the body temperature and energy consumption of all the volunteers.

This is how they found out that bathing had a very good outcome. The energy consumption of the volunteers who were allowed to bathe for an hour increased by 80%. In both the bathers and the athletes, the body temperature rose by one degree. The researchers then concluded that one hour of bathing is equivalent to half an hour of brisk walking. Of course, you can’t compare it completely. If you work out hard then you burn more calories than with an hour bathing.
