You’ve probably noticed that not every car has a fuel cap on the same side. You’ve probably also had times when you wanted to fill up, the fuel cap was on the other side. Very annoying. But why is it that the location of this valve differs per car? This is why!
It depends on where the car is produced. If the country of origin drives on the left side of the road, the fuel cap will also be placed on the left. This is also true the other way around. It has to do with the fact that gas stations used to be located right next to the road, so the cap was automatically placed on that side of the car as well. This was seen as the quickest and most convenient choice. This way you could drive on immediately.
